Language services

Language Justice Network (LJN) provides interpreting and translation services designed for settings where safety, dignity, and cultural competence matter.

We work with organisations across legal, health, and social service sectors to support culturally and linguistically diverse communities — with a particular focus on LGBTIQA+ people from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds.

Our approach recognises a simple reality: interpreter and translator suitability isn’t a “nice to have” in sensitive work. It directly impacts client safety, service quality, and trust.

What we offer

Interpreting

We support:

  • Telephone interpreting
  • Video interpreting
  • Onsite interpreting (where available)

Common settings include:

  • counselling and psychosocial support
  • legal advice and casework
  • intake appointments and assessments
  • community consultations and service navigation

Translation

We support translation of:

  • service information and resources
  • intake and consent materials
  • community-facing content
  • internal documents (policies, guides, forms)

We can also discuss:

  • plain-language / easy-English adaptations
  • formatting options for bilingual resources (depending on scope)

What makes LJN different

LJN was built to address gaps that standard language service providers don't account for.

Safer matching for sensitive contexts

We take suitability seriously. We aim to work with practitioners who can deliver language support in a way that is affirming, respectful, and culturally safe, particularly when working with LGBTIQA+ clients and communities.

Clear processes and expectations

You’ll receive a clear confirmation of booking details, and we aim to make the process straightforward for busy teams.

Support after complex work

When needed, practitioners can access debrief / supervision support following complex or distressing appointments (on request). This strengthens quality and supports sustainability for practitioners doing high-stakes work.

Languages and dialects

LJN is actively expanding its practitioner network. Availability varies by language, dialect/variant, and timing.

For dialect-sensitive languages, we ask you to specify the client’s dialect/variant in the request so we can match appropriately and avoid failed bookings.

If you have recurring language needs, we can work with you to plan coverage and build the network around demand.

Notice periods

As a general guide:

  • Preferred notice: one week where possible
  • Confirmation timeframe: once a request is received, we aim to confirm whether we can service it within 48 hours

Urgent requests are possible, but availability may be limited at short notice.

Fees and invoicing

LJN uses a transparent fee schedule that covers minimum booking blocks, cancellation terms, and loadings where relevant (e.g., after-hours). We can invoice:

  • per booking, or
  • via fortnightly/monthly batch invoices
  • If you’d like a copy of our current fee schedule, contact us and we’ll send it through.
